Gus Alva, MD is the founder and medical director of ATP Clinical Research (a premiere private clinical research company specializing in neuropsychiatric investigations). He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He is a forensic psychiatric consultant for the Orange County Superior Court and a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Alva received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG). Residency training was completed at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, where he served as chief resident during his final year of residency.
Dr. Alva has served as a principal investigator for the past 10 years conducting investigation in a myriad of neuropsychiatric conditions; Alzheimers and other dementias, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder and psychotic conditions. As a clinician and investigator, Dr Alva's focus is on the genetics, neuroimaging, and latest treatments available for each afore mentioned condition, as well as aspects of ethnicity and their correlation within clinical situations. He has published numerous articles, and presents at both national and international meetings and conferences.
He is the immediate past-president of the Orange County Psychiatric Society. Dr Alva is also is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Orange County Medical Association, the California Psychiatric Association, the American Board of Forensic Medicine, the American College of Forensic Examiners, the California Hispanic American Medical Association and the International Congress of Geriatric Psychopharmacology. galva@theatpgroup.net
Bobby Shih is the director of Clinical Trials responsible for the conduction of the clinical research trials. While he performs many physical assessments, Bobby also performs cognitive assessments that assist in gauging the degree of impairment of our patients’ memory and executive functioning. Marissa Rabe is a Clinical Research Coordinator and serves as the leading component in the implementation, execution and completion of ATP’s clinical research trials. Her previous experience in cardiovascular research has set the foundation for her understanding of the neuropsychiatric disorders that are examined at ATP. Marissa excels at both basic assessments, such as venipuncture and electrocardiograms, and cognitive examinations. Mary Lykke, M.A., LMFT is a Research Recruiter in charge of gathering and educating potential research candidates. Mary is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from University of California, Irvine. She has over 16 years of clinical experience & has been a research liaison since 1997. She has served as a sub-investigator on several Schizophrenia & Alzheimer’s clinical trials. Her strong relationship with community centers and key leaders in the community is paramount to ATP’s success in effectively meeting our recruitment outlines.
